biography life for yeong kim started out simply enough. his father and mother were hardworking, ever-diligent in making sure they could support their family through their relatively small hotel in the dong-gu district of busan, south korea. for as long as yeong can remember, this has always been the case and for as long as he can think forward, it always will be and their children were expected to follow suit. between schooling, extra studies and extracirricular activities that included a heavy focus on baseball at kyungnam high school, yeong and his younger brother did their part to make sure daily operations at the hotel were running smooth - be it making sure the linens were laundered and the rooms were clean or that the dining area, boasting only a small kitchen that ji-yu managed, was spotless. though it was tiresome at times, especially when there were other things yeong and his brother wanted to do, such was his life in busan.

for his part, yeong enjoyed played baseball, especially during high school where it held more credability than elementary leagues, and his parents surely saw the clout it gave their son to play as second baseman for the one of the best high school baseball teams in korea. more importantly, it was another point in his favor alongside his considerably good grades and upstanding attendance when it came to finding him a young woman that would make for a satisfying match. with plenty of stock in matchmaking thanks to their own successful marriage, dae-jung and ji-yu saw no reason why their son wouldn't have the same experience, happy with their life together even if it had been their own parents, yeong's grandparents, to arrange their partnering in the first place.

yeong, of course, had other thoughts on the matter, many of which were shut down by his parents whenever he tried to object to being set up with someone he hadn't even met and didn't even know whether or not he would be comparable with in the first minutes together never mind a lifetime together. with help from his uncle, seok kim, who had been through similar circumstances, yeong made the decision to move not just to another part of korea where his parents would be able, surely, to track him down, but to california where his uncle had long ago moved in his own pursuit of the american dream. in 2011, at the age of twenty, yeong moved to irvine, california where he took residence with his uncle and paid off his generosity by working at his uncle's flower shop, kim florists. it may have been worlds away from the future his parents had hoped for him, but it was a future that yeong had, in part, made for himself and yeong put his all into the shop, making deliveries and filling out purchase orders, learning the in's and out's of the business as well as all he could about the product from his uncle.

in 2014, his uncle passed and funeral arrangements fell to his next of kin. however, the shop and everything to do with it fell into the hands of the person best for the job: yeong. now, as the owner of kim florists, yeong has managed to afford his own apartment and is responsible for his own future in full, however with a significant amount of respect for his uncle and determination to make sure the flower shop doesn't fail given the trust put in him.

• absolutely loves baseball to this day and tries to attend dodgers games whenever he can. he also enjoys pick up games of baseball whenever there is free time and enough people to at least cover the primary positions.

• has a watercolor tattoo of sakura blossoms behind his right ear which, to this date, is the only tattoo he has though there is always talk about getting another one. he got the first when he became owner of kim florist.

• considers amaryllis, lilies and orchids among his favorite flowers, but the truth is, he likes nearly all of them he comes across through the shop. even weeds can be pretty.

• will eat anything and everything seafood. if it makes a home in the ocean and someone knows how to prepare it, yeong will eat it. he also has a particular fondness for gejang (soy crab).

• though he does speak to his parents now and then, especially after the passing of his uncle, their relationship is significantly strained by his choice to leave. the same can be said of his younger brother and he has yet to tell any of them about his sexuality.

• named his cat after the rose bride, anshi himemiya, from shoujo kakumei utena which is one of his favorite anime/manga series. he has all the ova episodes, manga titles and the movie.

• does dye his hair from time to time whenever he feels like changing his appearance somehow. often changes between silver and bright red.

• is severely allergic to bee stings.
